Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Creamy matte in 'Creme de Rose'

Thursday, 10 March 2016

Ever since seeing this on the Maybelline website some months ago I had been hunting it down with a passion! I visited numerous stores and even considered paying a  pretty penny for a minuscule sample pot from eBay, but then, one beautiful, beautiful day, I spotted the last pot in my local Superdrug and literally snapped it up!

I am all about matte nude shadows and I thought the dusty pink tone of this would be a nice switch from the browns and golds I usually stick to and a nice compliment for my fair skin tone. The Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Eyeshadow pots retail at £4.99 each which is a bargain price when compared with the M.A.C Pro Longwear Paintpots which retail at £16.00 a piece.
I have used the original Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Eyeshadows before and loved them; the wear time was great, the colours were bold and vivid and the creamy, gel-like formula was slick and easy to apply - but how does the matte offering compare?

As with all of the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo eyeshadow collection, the creamy mattes come in a small, glass pot. Not only does this mean they are well protected in your makeup bag, but it also gives them an expensive look and feel. I really like this design and think that it would be great to add a few more to my collection and stack them up on my vanity!
The metallic silver writing on the bottom of the pot is a little bit of a letdown as it isn't really in keeping with the matte finish of the product. I felt like Maybelline could have re-designed this text for the matte editions in the collection.
The information on the black lid is also a little disappointing - although I have thought this with all of the color tattoo eyeshadows. I like the fact that the sticker colour is reflective of the shade within but I think the fact that the bar code is slapped right in the middle gives it a cheap finish. Perhaps it would have been better to put this on a clear sticker on the side of the pot for discretion?

You can see from my swatches that the colour looks fantastic on my arm whether applied with a brush or a finger- it's a great all rounder that could be used as a base for a daytime look, or alone for lighter makeup days but, unfortunately, the same cannot be said when applied on the eyelid.
When I applied to my eyes it is virtually invisible and, believe me, I have tried to apply it in all sorts of ways - with a primer, without a primer, with a base shadow, without a base shadow, with a wet brush, with a dry brush, with my fingers, the list is endless. Nothing gets it to work. I tried building the colour up to get it to show, but it became so thick that my eyelids felt heavy and tacky and I had to remove it all.
One positive note, though, is that this applies like a dream, it's so smooth and glides on perfectly leaving a truly matte finish.

As mentioned, the color payoff from this product was dreadful, but I still wanted to see if this edition could live up to the 24hr Tattoo status and I'm happy to say that it did. When I had a spare day at home I applied some to my eyelids and some to my inner arm and it stood the test of time with ease, against washing up, washing my hands, rubbing my eyes and more - plus, it didn't crease one bit.
The longevity of these eyeshadows is second to none and I do enjoy using the other colours I've picked up. I often use my 'Eternal Black' as an eyeliner as I can go out confident that it isn't going to flake and will stay in place all day - so I'm not going to let this one disappointment put me off.

I was so excited to have finally got my hands on the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Creamy Matte Edition in 'Creme de Rose' and I truly thought it was going to be my go-to shadow for all of my everyday looks but, I just cant get it to show up once applied. Perhaps it's just due to my skintone. As with all products, particularly beauty ones, it's very much down to personal preference; what works for one might not necessarily work for another and this eyeshadow could still be perfect for you!
I think I'll stick to using this  as a base for my other eyeshadows for now and keep searching for the perfect dusty pink matte shadow!
