A Closer Look | ChiChi Glamorous 'Spices' palette

Thursday, 3 March 2016

I had such a big reaction to photos of this palette which I posted on my social media - and its not hard to see why! I have spoken about it in other posts before but I felt it was about time it starred in its very own, so here it is!

I was so kindly gifted the ChiChi Spices palette in my Swapbox with Diary of a Beauty Padawan and I have seriously not stopped using it - its even worked its way into my daily makeup routine (post)!
I have never tried anything by ChiChi before, as they are hard to get hold of here in the UK being an Australian brand, but this is definitely my kind of palette - its full of earthy hues which blend seamlessly for everything from a subtle everyday look to a smoky night time look.

I really like the simplistic packaging of the 'Spices' palette. There are actually over 20 palettes in the ChiChi Glamorous eyeshadow palette range and the clear lid and bold lettering on them means you can easily grab the right one out of your stash should you have more than one.
The sleek, black pan give the shades an even more vibrant look which is a great touch as they really are beautiful.
One thing I think ChiChi missed out on here is naming the individual shadows in each palette. I know not everyone is worried about that but as a blogger it does make it harder to distinguish one shadow from another when writing about them.

Considering these palettes are only 23AUD (around £12) you really get a lot of bang for your buck. Each palette in the ChiChi Glamorous range holds 12 shadows which means you are only paying around £1 per shadow. Bargain!
There are a mix of finishes in the ChiChi Spices palette including metallic, matte and shimmer, so you can really create a look for every occasion.
As mentioned, this is an earthy based palette. It is brimming with warm toned shadows which makes it ideal for the autumn months. There is everything from basic champagne highlights to vibrant rose and golden under-toned burgundys as well as rich browns and opulent metallics.

I found the pay off from this palette to be surprisingly pleasing! Being that this is a (relatively) budget palette, there are always certain expectations attached, but the Spices palette easily surpassed them!
You only need a small amount of product on your brush for a strong application - you can see from my swatches just how vibrant these shadows are and I find that they blend perfectly too. I often apply the darkest matte brown to the outer corner and along the crease of the socket and then blend the shimmer burgundy shadow in and sweep it across the lid, finishing with the champagne highlight on the inner corner of the eye and, let me tell you, the blending is seamless.
There is little to no fallout with these shadows too, which means no coloured smudges under the eyes after hours of hard work on your base!
With the range of colours included in the Spices palette I am confident it would work with most skin tones and eye colours, too.

I always use a primer with my shadows, so I cant speak for how well these last without one, but every time I have used them with a primer they last right through the day up until bed time when its time to remove them.
I love the versatility of this palette, you can create subtle day time looks with mattes and delicate highlights, or you can go for bolder, smokier looks for special occasions, as well as everything in between.

If I lived in AUS I would be hoarding this whole range, no question, however, shipping can sting when living on the other side of the world.
ChiChi charge 20AUD (around £10.50) for all orders to the UK under 100AUD, so to make the most of your money, I would do a combined order with a friend and split the shipping costs or save up to get a few more items in one large order!
Good news though; if your order is over 100AUD your shipping to the UK is free and the expected wait is 5-15 business days for all orders to the UK - a reasonable time frame in my opinion.
ChiChi state that they do their best to eliminate customs and duty charges on international orders, but they cannot guarantee it, so this is something else to bear in mind!

Overall, a gorgeous palette which is worth picking up if you can get your hands on it! I was so pleased to add this to my collection and it has certainly earned its place in my top 5 palettes!

Have you tried anything from ChiChi before?

    1. Hehe it does! I'm gonna have to save up to get a few more!

  2. I've never heard of this brand, but the colors look really pretty! I agree that it's harder to write about swatches with no names, and the names are the best parts usually too!

    1. Hehe I know that feeling! I'm a bit of a palette hoarder but I go through stages of not wearing much eyeshadow and then stages of suddenly wanting to wear eyeshadow and I immediately must indulge in a new palette :')
