4th July LookBook

Monday, 29 June 2015

Yes, I know. I'm British. But truth be told, I'd much rather be living it up in America. The UK just isn't for me, and so, in the hopes of bringing just a slither of USA goodness my way, I always take part in 4th July celebrations.

I've never been in America on 4th of July and, having a small baby, it doesn't look like I will be anytime soon. But that doesn't matter, we can still have fun here in 'sunny' England. Each year we do a BBQ with our friends where we eat delicious foods, wear red, white&blue and hang some patriotic decorations. If anything, it is a lovely excuse to get together with friends and share an evening together.

I realise that not everyone is as into the 4th of July as me, but we've always had a great time, and the easiest way to get into the spirit is to  wear something patriotic and proud. Here are some of my favourite looks for Independence day 2015!

LOOK 1: Cut Out Crop Top // Striped Prom Skirt // Red Kandi Bag // Red Patent Geek Shoes // Lipstick in 'Beguiled' // LOOK 2: Stripe A-Line Dress // Polka Red Strap Watch // Tassel Stretch Bracelet // White Mid-Heel Sandals //  Lip Ombre in 'Baffle'

LOOK 1: Flag Jumper // White Skinny Jeans // Matte Red Lipstick in 'PillarBox Red' // Blue Gelly Nail Polish in 'Blue Grape' // Converse Star Sneakers // LOOK 2: CocaCola Tank // USA Flag Levis Denim Shorts // VANS Trucker Cap // Mustang Hide Cowgirl Boots //

Do you have any Plans to Celebrate July 4th this year?

Cafe de Bain Bathing Products

Tuesday, 16 June 2015

Who doesn't love a baked good?! And one that isn't full of calories is sure to be a winner!

I came across the Cafe De Bain range in Superdrug just a couple of months ago and immediately became hooked. The range consists of indulgent bath cremes and decadent shower cremes inspired by the bakeries of France. With 'flavours' including Cherry&Almond, Raspberry&Rose, Coconut Macaroon and Sweet Vanilla Madeleine there is something for every sweet tooth.

The packaging is tres chic, with hints of gold on pastel tones - they look adorable lined up in the bathroom and I always have trouble deciding which one to use next.
I love the rich, thick and velvety feel of the shower creme and not only does the scent fill my bathroom but it lingers on my skin long after my shower has ended! The products smell exactly as described and, trust me, they are seriously addictive! I cant stop popping the lid off and taking a sniff!

This range is considerably new and is available at Superdrug and Waitrose right now, with each item retailing at just £2.99. I'd love to see them introduce some hand creams and body mists into the range in the future!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

Monday, 15 June 2015

If you read my Lipstick lust-list, you'll know that this was one of the lip products that I was desperate to get my hands on. And, on a recent trip to Boots, I spotted it and just couldn't wait any longer.

This little beauty is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in shade 07 'nude-ist'. I have loved Bourjois products for a while - infact, their 'Fond de teint brush foundation' was one of the first foundations I ever used and I got addicted, until it was sadly discontinued - and that love has only grown since trying more and more of what they have to offer.

The Rouge edition velvet lipstick range consists of 12 shades, with a mix of matte and satin finishes. They retail for just £8.99 each and boast bold and intense colour with 24 hour hold. Now, I'm not sure mine held for quite that long, but it was pretty darn close!

I don't know exactly what I expected from this, shade 07 is a matte finish edition, so I wasn't expecting anything too gloopy or shiny like a lipgloss, but I certainly wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. The colour is so strong and it is literally like a liquid lipstick.
I have found that this applies more evenly and neatly when used with a lip brush rather than the doe foot applicator it comes with, but nonetheless, it is an amazing piece of make up to have in your kit.
A little of this goes a long way, so it's important to use it sparingly but its good to know that even though this has a matte finish, it doesn't dry the lips out and make them look chapped and cracked as many matte lip products do, it just leaves them perfectly velvety and pigmented.

As you can see, 'Nude-ist' appears to be more of a pink tone rather than nude, but either way it is still a beautiful colour and, and an  easy way to do pink lips if your not going for that fuchsia look which seems so popular in the summertime.
I have to say that I do prefer this to the Rimmel apocalips. Although the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick shade range is more limited I prefer the finish that they give and the longevity of the product!

Overall, a lovely lip product which I am glad I picked up. I think I'll try shade 'Dont pink of it' next!

Clean Lemon & Blueberry Mini Bundt Cakes

Thursday, 11 June 2015

This week I made some super yummy (and clean!) lemon and blueberry mini bundt cakes and posted a picture to my facebook page - and one of my lovely readers requested that I share the recipe I used.
I found the base of the recipe on the Laurens Latest blog, but I adapted it so that it would be a little more clean, however this is not a must and you can make them the original way if you prefer something a little more indulgent.

6 Tablespoons olive spread (you could use butter)
3/4 cup agave nectar (I get mine from Sainsburys - here, but you could use granulated sugar if you are not going clean)
1 Large egg
2 Tablespoons milk
Zest and Juice of 1 lemon
1 1/4 Cups gluten free flour (ordinarly flour will work just as well)
1 Teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup fresh blueberries (You could also use frozen)

For the drizzle topping
1 1/4 cup icing sugar
Juice of half a lemon

Pre-heat the oven to 190 degrees. I am using a non stick mini bundt pan from Sainsburys (similar here) but you could always make them into cupcake cases instead, if so, place your cupcake cases into the tray now.

In a large bowl add all wet ingredients; olive spread, agave nectar, egg, milk, lemon juice, and blend until smooth and creamy. Make sure you scrape the sides of the bowl and get everything mixed in.

Slowly add in the dry ingredients; Flour, Baking powder, lemon zest and salt. sifting these in will make for a much smoother batter.

Once everything is combined you can add in the blueberries and mix into the batter gently.

You can then go ahead and put your batter into either your cake pan or cake cases. Pop into the oven and allow them to cook for 12-16 minutes. You will be able to check if they are ready by inserting a toothpick into the middle and it will come out clean.

If you can wait (Dan couldn't), allow the cakes to cool for 5 minutes while you make the drizzle topping.

Simply combine the icing sugar with the lemon juice until smooth and lightly drizzle over the cakes - this part is obviously not clean, so if you want the cakes to be completely clean then simply skip this step and enjoy them as they are. They taste every bit as good plain!

These little cakes are so yummy, each bite is sweet and moist and you will enjoy the surprise of blueberries bursting in your mouth! I always try to eat clean and its nice to know you can still enjoy treats like these and not have to worry about piling on the pounds

The Summer Tag

Monday, 8 June 2015

It's finally starting to feel like summer here in England. We had a beautiful weekend which really got me in the spirit of the season, so I thought I would create this fun tag to help you get to know me and a few of my favourite bloggers better!

1. What's your favourite thing about summer?
The atmosphere! It's (hopefully) sunny and everyone just seems happier and more positive. There's a fresh smell in the air and I seem to wake up every morning feeling energetic and ready to go! I like the excitement of unplanned summer adventures and making memories that will last a lifetime.
2. Do you have a favourite summer drink?
During those hot summer days I absolutely love to drink the Volvic coco pineapple water, it's like summer in a bottle and keeps me so hydrated. And for those warm summer nights with friends I love me some whiskey and ice - its my favourite grown up drink ;)
3. Is there a special place you like to visit each summer
Not anywhere in particular. As long as I'm with my loved ones then it's sure to be a good day. Dan and I love a visit to Longleat safari park, but I also love just hanging in the garden with my friends and a BBQ, enjoying every moment of sun!
4. Whats your favourite make up look for summer?
Nothing too heavy. There's nothing worse than a face clogged with makeup sweating and causing breakouts. I keep it light and fresh with some of my Garnier BB miracle skin perfector, some eyeliner (I like to use the Maybelline colour tattoos), mascara, and a nice hydrating lip balm. I also like to apply bronzer to my cheeks and temples for a healthy glow!
5. Dresses or skirts?
This is really hard because I like that you can mix and match with a skirt, but I think I just prefer dresses as there are so many styles and they are so versatile. You can easily switch a dress from a day time look with a sunhat and sandals to a night time outfit simply by adding some heels or wedges and some nice jewelry!
6. Festivals or Vacations?
Vacations. Festivals just aren't my scene, they look awesome but I cant imagine spending all that money for 2 or 3 days sleeping in a dirty field without showers or toilets, id much rather go on an adventure with my friends - it doesn't even have to be abroad, just a few days away to explore and let our hair down.
7. Whats your signature summer hairstyle?
Its cliche and boring, but in the summer I love simple beachy waves with a french braided fringe. I don't like anything too fussy but I do like to have my fringe out of my face to keep it sweat-free! Nice ;)
8.  What's your signature summer scent?
I don't tend to change my fragrance due to the current season, I just wear what I like best. But I have actually been enjoying wearing the Victoria's Secret 'Coconut Passion' body mist lately. Its tropical and exotic and so light. It isn't too sickly sweet, either! And for special dates or nice occasions I have really been loving StormFlower by Cheryl. Its very elegant and refreshing.
9. Favourite music for summer?
If you know me well, you'll know I'm a real country music fan, and this summer I have been especially loving Josh Turner's albums 'Punching Bag' and 'Haywire' as well as Brad Paisleys new album 'Moonshine in the Trunk'. On a non-country note, I am addicted to Maroon 5 'Sugar', Carly Rae Jepsen 'I really like you' and, of course, anything by Katy Perry!
10. Pool or Beach?
Pool, definitely. I'm not really a fan of the beach as I'm afraid of the sea and I find it a little boring. I'd much rather be tanning by the pool, listening to music, sipping on tropical drinks and juices and taking a dip in non-salty water!
11. BBQ or Seafood?
BBQ for sure. I hate seafood, but even if I didn't - you just cant beat a summer BBQ. the smell is amazing and everything is so delicious - plus you can toast marshmallows on there too!

Now that you've gotten to know me a little better, I tag XOXOMeaghan, Jasmine Talks Beauty, Diary of a beauty padawan, Permanent Procrastination , Sazbomb, Cakes crumbs and pages, HaySparkle and LaurennnHobbs  to complete the summer tag and nominate their favourite bloggers to take part. Please make sure you link back to me, too!

And for my non-blogger friends, whats your favourite part of summer?

Gifts from NYC!

Friday, 5 June 2015

Recently, my sister took a trip to NYC (no, I'm not jealous!), and she bought me back some lovely treats. I love getting the chance to try things that aren't available here in the UK, so it was really fun to see what she had picked out for me!

Lauren bought me back an EOS (Evolution of Smooth) Lip Balm in 'Strawberry Sorbet'. This smells amazing, so sweet and delicious, and it makes my lips feel so soft. I was also recently sent one of these by XOXO Meaghan (read about it in my post here), and I can absolutely see what the hype is over them. They are so convenient and the sphere shape makes them so fun and unique, plus the fact that they come in a rainbow of colours and 'flavours'.
She also picked me up this awesome Perfumed Top Coat polish from Urban Outfitters! It is in the scent 'Sweet Sugar'. At first, I wondered how this would work, but after applying it and letting it dry I was actually amazed at how non-nail polish smelling it is. It really does smell sweet, and I also found that it dries very quickly, too! I love it!

We used to have a Sephora in Southampton some years ago and I have missed it ever since it closed down, so I am delighted that Lauren has chosen something for me from Sephora. She gave me this Pearl Fiber Face Mask!
I haven't used this yet as I am saving it for a special occasion, but the packaging is so perfect! I love the shape and I really like that the mask comes in its own cardboard sleeve. Fiber masks are my favourite kind as they are so simple to apply and leave next to no mess. I am really looking forward to using this and getting the skin benefits that it promises, including ; skin luminosity, even skin tone and blemish minimizing power!

I was also over the moon to see that Lauren had bought me a Contour & Blush palette from BH Cosmetics! I have ordered from the BH website before and used a few of their palettes and the quality is impeccable, so I am very pleased to add this one to my collection.
I love to use the darkest brown powder to contour and sculpt my cheekbones, nose and temples before applying my foundation and I have really enjoyed using the blushes, too. I find the powders so light and buildable. They blend well and have great staying power.

Knowing me as well as she does, Lauren also bought me back a bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Hearts! They taste amazing and I'm actually pretty proud that I have managed to make them last this long, haha! They are all individually wrapped in cute foils and are super addictive!
I am so happy that Lauren also picked me out the new Victoria Secret Body Mist. I have quite a large collection of the VS fragrances and I always like to get my hands on new additions, so this is a total winner for me! 'Love Addict' is a sweet fragrance infused with wild orchid and blood orange. I love the bottles of the body mists, they are so feminine and look adorable lined up on my beauty table!

Lauren has her own blog, too, where she has written all about her trip to NYC. You can see it here .

*Thank you Lauren, for all the amazing gifts. Let's go to NY together next time!*

MAC Velvet Teddy

Wednesday, 3 June 2015

If you've been living anywhere but under a rock you'll know that this little lippy is everywhere. Well, that is until you try to buy it.
I was on a crazy hunt for this cult favourite for so long and when my sister and I visited London last weekend I was certain I would be able to pick it up in Covent Gardens MAC store, but I was wrong. So very wrong.
So, on we went with our day of shopping, when it suddenly hit me - there is a MAC counter in Selfridges - so we made a dash for it and I was so pleased when the manager told me she has loads of them left.
And so, I own one! Finally!

I have to admit this is the first piece of MAC makeup I ever owned, but I am already addicted and eyeing up what I might buy next (hint; 'Honey Love').

The packaging, while admittedly very minimal, is very sleek and luxury looking. The bullet itself is sturdy and robust and I really like the curved tip of the lid.
The shade name is also on the bottom of the bullet, so, as your collection grows (as it undoubtedly will) you can find what you are looking for with ease.

The formula of the lipstick is idea. Soft, creamy and moisturising while delivering a good hit of pigment, with a matte finish. I have quite pink lips but this still gave a good colour to them.
I also like that it has a delicate, sweet scent to it.
The only disappointment was that it didn't last as long on the lips as I'd hoped, but it was still a good 4-5 hours between touch ups. Of course, as with all lipsticks, this applies more neatly and cleanly when used with a lip liner pencil.

Overall, I am very impressed with this product. I was a little hesitant about spending £15.50 on one lipstick, but now I know how lovely it is, I would be happy to do it again. MAC have a very wide shade range of lipsticks and I cant wait to discover more!

Have you tried MAC before? Are there any pieces you'd recommend?

Lipstick Lust-List

Tuesday, 2 June 2015

TL-BR; MAC 'Honey Love' // MAC 'Peach Blossom' // Gerard Cosmetics '1995' // Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 'Nude-ist' // L'Oreal Paris Color Riche 'Ginger Chocolate' // Gerard Cosmetics 'Buttercup' // Bourjois Rouge Edition  'Violine Strass' // Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Celebrity Skin'.

Since buying my first High-end lipstick last week (review coming soon), I seem to have gained an obsession for them - oh dear! - so I decided to round up a few of my favourites that I'm desperately lusting after right now!
I know that most of these are nude shades but I am totally crushin' on nudes right now; they make any make up look wearable and are so complimentary to all skin tones. I think the Gerard Cosmetics are my absolute favourites, the gold bullet is super chic!

What is your favourite Lip Product? I'd love to discover some more!

Fathers Day UK Gift Guide

Monday, 1 June 2015

Fathers Day is still a few weeks away - its on the 21st june FYI - but its not too early to start thinking of gifts for the special man who made you the person you are today.
This year is particularly exciting for me as not only do I get to spoil my own dad, but I will also be celebrating Dans first ever fathers day! I just cant wait!
So, to help get you ready for Fathers Day '15, I have created this gift guide, featuring perfect presents for young & first time daddies as well as older fathers.

All through my pregnancy Dan was at my beck and call. He did everything for me and wouldn't let me lift a finger - sometimes much to my frustration - but I am so grateful for all his love and help. Even though Elias wasn't born yet on Mothers day, Dan surprised me with a card and a beautiful bracelet to say how proud he was of me.
And, since Elias has been born, he's been every bit as amazing, and more. He helps me with night feeds even when he has been at work all day, he comes home and cooks dinner if I've had a particularity challenging day with Elias and he even sits and goes over wedding plans with me after a long day of work and nappy changing.
I am so excited to celebrate him on his first Fathers day and I love the idea of personalised, dated gifts, so I have included them in my guide above, along with other gifts which I think would be great for younger dads.
*Daddy star can be painted in your choice of colour

Fathers day gift shopping is not something to be rushed.
Speaking about my own experience - and I'm sure this will go for many others -  my dad is the best. He was there whenever I needed him, from kissing my 'baddies' better when I was little, to chasing off spiders and listening to me say 'I swear dad, I'm not drunk' until I was blue (or green, rather) in the face, he has always been there with support and encouragement. My dad does and gives everything he can for me and my sister, even if it means he goes without, and I love spending this day - but not just this day - to show him how special and important he is to me.
I understand, though, that all dads are different. They like different things and have different interests. My dad loves fishing but I know some dads could think of nothing worse! So above are just a few ideas of a more general fathers day gift idea!
*Calvin Klein 'Obsession' currently half price at Superdrug & All Suits currently 20% off at River Island

Whatever you do this Fathers day, make lots of memories!
