HAUL | Spring Fling

Monday, 23 February 2015

Its been spring in my heart pretty much since January - you know the feeling, Christmas and New Year have past and you need something new to look forward to! So, I thought I would share with you all some of the lovely items I've been picking up in preparation for spring time.
I always love spring, its a great time for the beauty world as there is an endless amount of shiny, pretty new products released and fashion takes a new turn too!

First up; Nails.
Models own have released a new 'Chrome' Collection | £4.99 each, and I have desperately been hunting down the shade 'rose'. Its the perfect rose gold colour and, as with all the polishes in this collection, it applies so smoothly and is seriously shiny. The idea of these polishes is to have a molten metal effect and I just love it,. I think that 'Rose' is the perfect spring shade, its pink and girly with an edgy twist.
As always Barry M are right on trend - especially with the release of their new 'Speedy Quick Dry' nail paint collection | £3.99 each. This collection features 9 pastel polishes perfect for the spring which dry super fast and have an all new flat brush for quick and easy application. I picked up shades 'Lap of Honour' (dusty mauve) and 'Road Rage' (mint green).
Barry M have also extended their Gelly collection with the release of the new 'Plumpy top coat' | £2.99, designed to give their Gelly nail paints the ultimate gel look finish. I was a little put off by the name 'plumpy' as I thought it might make my nail polish look thick and clumpy, but it does no such thing, it just leaves them super shiny and strong.

I have always been a massive Maybelline fan, I'd go as far as to say that they're my favourite make up brand, but ever since I tried the 'better skin foundation' and hated it I have been a little reluctant to try their new releases.
However, being the sucker for packaging that I am, I just couldn't help but pick up their new items on a recent Superdrug trip.
The Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude foundation | £8.99, is just amazing, It is so light but gives amazing coverage - and can we just take a second to admire that amazing ombre bottle?! The lid has a cool dropper tool inside so that you dont waste any product and it just makes my skin look so flawless.
With all the hype over the Benefit Roller lash mascara I was feeling a little left out having not tried it, however, after using the new Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | £7.99, I couldn't care less. This mascara is perfect. It was a little wet the first couple of times I used it but I could easily get past that for the results! The brush is curved and so easy to work with and it makes my lashes look gorgeous - long, fanned out and super dark, what more could you ask?!
I know I always rave about how much I love the Collection eye definition liquid liner, but I bought a new tube last month and was so upset at how the formula seems to have changed and become all flaky, so I thought I'd give the new Maybelline master precise | £5.99, felt liner a try. I rarely use felt liners as I find it tricky to get nice neat fine lines, however this one has a very fine tip so you can draw neat wings and cat eye flicks 'til your hearts content. I do find that you need to apply a couple of coats if your applying it over eyeshadow, but it gives a nice, long lasting result, so I can get past that!
Finally, I was so happy to see some new additions to the Maybelline 24 hour colour tattoo range. I know that the US have a wide shade selection and I was a bit miffed when I realised we had very little choice, but its nice to know that new shades are being added. I have picked up shade 'Eternal Pink' which I have been absolute loving to use to highlight the inner eye corner. It blends well and is so light. I find that these really do last hours on the skin and at £4.99 a piece they are a bargain!

The Maybelline Baby Skin range is something I have become addicted to (yes, MORE Maybelline!). I have just come to the end of my first tube of the Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur Pore Eraser | £7.99 in 'Cool Rose'. I have to say that I have enjoyed this much more than the original Baby skin primer as it is much less greasy and gives my skin a gorgeous, even matte look. On lazier days I even just wear this alone without foundation as it makes my skin feel lovely. I know its shallow, but I am also in love with the adorable pastel pink colour of the cream, too!
I'm sure all of us have tried the Baby Lips lip balms before, but I had been patiently waiting for what felt like forever for the Baby Skin Dr Rescue lip balms to hit UK shores. Well, they finally have and I have not been one bit disappointed. Just like the originals, these lip balms are designed to keep lips baby soft and moisturised, with the added power of alleviating chapping and damage. They come in a variety of shades and while I don't find that the tint is all that effective I really like the results and the tiny £3.49 price tag. I picked up shades 'Too Cool' and 'Coral Crave'

Fragrance wise, I haven't strayed too far from my signature scent 'Princess' by Vera Wang. While browsing Amazon recently I noticed that I could buy a big 100ml bottle of the Vera Wang 'Flower Princess' fragrance for under £20, and even though I had never tried it before I just couldn't help myself.
I love the floral packaging, and the scent, while remaining sweet and fresh, is floral too which makes this the perfect spring scent for girly girls.
The bottle is the same adorable heart shape but the crown on this edition is silver rather than gold, and the liquid is pink instead of the usual purple.
I am hooked!

I have been loving the 'bare skin' and 'nude' make up trends that are quickly becoming a spring staple, so I have picked up some key pieces.
The new MUA Luxe Whipped Velvet Blush is just a dream. I picked up shade 'Spry', but I really wish I had picked up all 5 shades on offer, especially as they are only £3 each. While the packaging is basic, there is nothing plain about the product itself. It is so soft and light (think mousse texture) and applies seamlessly. 'Spry' is the perfect colour for my fair skin as it gives my cheeks a spot of colour without leaving them looking flushed and OTT! P.S there are also matching lip colours avaialble in this new range ;)
The Collection Lasting Perfection concealer | £4.19, is a much talked about product in the beauty world and I have been really enjoying using mine these last few weeks. It applies with a doe foot brush and blends so well. I find that it doesn't crease and it easily covers up the dark circles and blemishes that tend to crop up!
90's nude lips are hot hot hot right now and I am trying out this look with the KIKO pencil lip glosses | £3.40. I picked up shades '60' and '80'. Both are very pale and nude but I definitely prefer shade '80' as it has that nude with brown hint which the look calls for. I really like these as they have all the shine of a lipgloss without being gloopy and sticky! Perfect.
I recently took part in a swap box with XOXOMeaghan (see full post here), and I received this awesome 'Walking on Eggshells' eyeshadow trio by Wet'n'Wild. I am addicted to this as all the colours are perfect for my skin tone and they are very buildable. I love using the pearl pink shadow all over my lid and filling in my crease with the brown shadow - it gives a lovely amount of depth and makes my eyes look all the larger!

We don't have a bath in our house so I always like to buy nice shower gels and when I spotted this Cafe De Bain shower creme in 'Coconut Macaroon' On offer in Superdrug for £1.99 I just had to buy it. The packaging is so cute and the smell is incredible - I have fallen in love with it!
They have everything in this range from 'Cherry & Almond' to 'Raspberry & Rose', so I cant wait to pick up another bottle!

Yeyy, shoes!
I rarely ever treat myself to heels as I don't seem to wear them that often but when shopping on Missguided recently I saw that they had an extra 20% off all sale items, so I had a look about and came across these 2 pairs of beauties for just £10 each! Plus the 20% discount! Who is going to say no to £8 for a gorgeous pair of heels?!
I really like this strappy, sandal style of heel as I think they will look classy with jeans as well as cute with dresses, so I opted for the Clara snake print white strappy sandals and the Clara Heeled sandals baby blue. Both pairs fit comfortably and look so pretty!
I thought the white heels would work great with so many outfits and have the edgynes of the snake print and the powder blue heels will be perfect for the spring time!
Both of these pairs of heels are still on sale on the Missguided website for just £10 each.

I'm sure I'll pick up many more spring treasures, but these are definitely my favourite to date! What trends and products are you loving this season? Have you picked up any bargins?

The BodyShop Wild Rose HandCare

Friday, 20 February 2015

For my Birthday my beautiful cousins were so sweet and bought me an amazing Wild Rose scented hand care collection from The BodyShop.
I absolutely love The Bodyshop - the ingredients are clean, the fragrances are so fresh and the packaging is so well designed.
I had never tried anything from the Wild Rose Range before, but my cousin assured me that it smelled wonderful and now, I'm not really sure why I never tried it before!
I have to admit that I have only really used body and face care items from the The BodyShop up until now, so I knew this would be a nice change of pace!

The packaging was so sweet and right up my street - I almost couldn't bring myself to open it (almost!), but I was desperate to give the products a try!
I really love the wicker basket it was presented in - I have kept it to decorate my beauty table with - and the bow it was wrapped up with was the perfect finishing touch.

The collection includes; the Wild Rose Hand Cream SPF15 (100ml), the Wild Rose Caring Hand Wash (250ml), the Wild Rose Nourishing Hand Butter (100ml)  and the Wild Rose Targeted Hand Oil
I really love the packaging on this collection - it's so pretty and very distinguishable! Each product is a good size and I have really enjoyed using them, they have even helped moisturise my dry and irritated skin. I'll spare you the grossing out pictures but pregnancy has left my hands very dry and cracked so this collection really couldn't have come at a better time!

My favourite product has to be the Wild Rose Hand Cream SPF15. I have always heard good things about The BodyShop hand creams and my cousin loves the Hemp version, so I had high hopes for this and I have not been disappointed! It gets to work straight away and, as you can imagine, has the most addictive floral scent.
This product is designed for mature skin, but that really doesn't matter to me - I believe it is better to be keeping your hands moisturised and young with a good quality product no matter of the designed age range, rather than letting them get exposed to chemicals and weather conditions with no care at all! Plus this has all the benefits of SPF 15 - winner!

I have also been really loving the Wild Rose Targeted Hand Oil. I have never used something like this and I think is absolutely genius! Oils can be very messy, but the rollerball applicator on this allows complete control so you don't end up drowning yourself in oil and sliding around the house. I also love that it is a perfect size to take in your handbag, so you can make sure to keep using it throughout the day.
I cant seem to find this product on The BodyShop website so I am unable to provide a link. However, I'm sure it can easily be picked up in-store!

I am a big fan of this Wild Rose Nourishing Hand Butter. As I'm sure most of us are, I love the BodyShop's body butter range, and this is every bit as good. It has rose-hip oil for intense moisturising power, but it has a lovely non-greasy finish so your not all slippery for hours after using it!
Th tub is so cute and you really only need a small amount for 24 hour moisturised hands, so I know this is going to last me quite some time!

The Wild Rose Caring Hand Wash is just lovely! Its so nice to have a hand wash that is rich and creamy rather than the standard gel form.  As well as containing rose hip oil and rosewater, this product is soap-free, so it is gentle on your skin while leaving it protected and moisturised.
The pump bottle is so handy (pardon the pun!) and the scent lingers on the hands for ages after use - I cant help but keep sniffing them, I must look like a crazy lady, but it is seriously addictive!

If you haven't tried any hand care by the BodyShop then I highly recommend that you do so - there are lots of fragrances available, so even if you're not a floral fan, there will be something else you will love!

Thankyou to my cousins for this great gift - I am officially hooked!

B.Liv Skincare *

Tuesday, 17 February 2015

A little while back I was very kindly sent some of the B.Liv skincare range to try out.
I absolutely love discovering new skincare products and seeing what they can do. I feel like skincare products are constantly evolving and progressing so it is exciting to come across something I have never had the chance to try before.
B.Liv specialise in skincare for young people in the hopes that good skin will raise their confidence and help them to believe in themselves!
I also find it very comforting to know that the products I have been sent have not been tested on animals - this is something I really try to stick to when buying beauty products.

I was sent the 'Spots Got Shot' blemish treatment serum. For someone like me, who is on a constant quest for clearer skin, this was a very exciting product to discover.
This treatment is designed to help calm skin irritations and sooth aggravated areas on the skin. It also soaks up excess sebum (dirt) to stop any further skin problems before they even happen.
I have really enjoyed this product and have genuinely found it to be one of the very few spot treatment products that actually do what they promise. I found that it reduces redness around any spots I had immediately and cleared up my spots within a day (or two for those deeper blemishes).
You really only need to apply a light amount and, happily, it doesn't dry out the skin as some spot treatments seem to do.
This retails at $25 for 15ml, so it is a little more costly than something I'd usually go for. But, now that I know how effective and quick working it is on my skin, I would be happy to spend this.

I also got to try out the 'Oil Leviate' oil control gel.
This mattifying gel is designed to prevent oily skin, while keeping it healthy and moisturised.
You just apply this after cleansing - no need to wash it off, and it keeps skin feeling soft and supple without being all shiny!
I was worried that this would make my skin feel dry and flaky but, somehow, it manages to stop oily skin without drying it out. Interestingly, it also helps to fade scars - so, if you have struggled with acne that has left some scarring on your skin then this is worth a try to fade them. Reviews on the B.Liv website certainly back this claim up, too.
I have really enjoyed this product. I don't have particularly oily skin but my chin does sometimes get a bit shiny and I certainly noticed after using this that it was perfectly balanced. It feels so light and makes my skin soft immediatley.
This product retails at $35.00 for 30ml

I was also sent 2x 'Sensetive Salvation' repair and rescue face mask and 2x 'Absolute Matte' face mask. Dan and I used these on Valentines day as a special treat and they were very different!

I tried out the 'Sensitive salvation' mask as my skin has been playing me up in this late stage of my pregnancy, so I thought it might help. The masks are Japanese silk sheets, which means you don't have to paint them on, you just put the sheet over your face and lie back.
This mask is designed to repair, soothe and aid in cell regeneration. I had to leave this on for 20-30 minutes, however for the first 5 minutes I found it a little uncomfortable as I didn't realise you are supposed to peel the thin silk sheet off of a plastic backing which it is stuck to, so I felt a little smothered. Once I had realised and peeled them apart the silk sheet moulded to my skin much better and felt so breathable,
It may seem like a silly mistake to make, but there was nothing on the packet instructing you to peel the layers apart so we just assumed that was how it was done!

Dan used the 'Absolute matte' mask as he suffers from an oily t-zone. This mask is designed to help control oil and hydrate the skin. It also claims to lift dirt and sebum out of the skin and contains ingredients like Zinc sulfate and willow bark extract. This mask is to be left on for 15 minutes and any remaining product is then to be massaged into the skin for full benefits!

Although I'm not sure that my mask did much to improve my skin, it was very relaxing and soothing and it was nice to have a refreshing product on my face which I could lie back and enjoy! Dan said his mask was very refreshing and I actually haven't heard him complaining about having an oily forehead for a couple of days now - so it must have done something good to his skin!
These masks are $2.50 each or you can buy a set of 10 for £22.00 - this means you will get a full course of the treatment!

The B.Liv products come with a 2 week money back guarantee, so you can be sure that they really work, and, even if you find that you're (somehow) not satisfied, you won't have lost out on anything,
You can see all of the B.Liv range here and you can find out more about them on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paint

Monday, 16 February 2015

It's Manicure Monday!
A couple of weeks back Barry M announced a new collection across their social media and I just couldn't wait to get my hands on it!
The Speedy Quick Dry Nail Paints come in 9 gorgeous pastel shades which are perfect for spring, and will set you back a tiny £3.99 a piece (Superdrug are running a 2 for £7 offer right now - Just sayin').

I (eventually) settled on shades 'Lap of Honour' - an adorable dusty mauve polish, and 'Road Rage' - a perfect dusty mint polish with grey undertones - which I always seem to sway toward this time of year.
I love the design of these polish bottles. They are the classic 'Barry M' square shape, but the lid has a super cute chequerboard pattern, which I assume is to give the impression of a race track flag - but for some reason it gives me a retro vibe. Either way its cute and a definite winner!
Each polish has a Racing themed name too - so sweet!

The polishes in this collection come with a new flat shape brush,  which means they fan out and give an easy application.
Obviously, the idea of these polishes are that they dry quickly, and  I certainly agree that they do. You really do need 2 coats of each colour to make it opaque and streak free, but I still found that everything was fully dry and hardened in just 10 minutes!
The formula is fairly thick - but not so much that its all gloopy, it's just right to give it a shiny finish with speedy drying time.

You can see in my swatches above that 'Road Rage' is a really lovely spring shade. I love that it is bright but not too bold - it'll give even the plainest of outfits a spring overhaul and I think 'Lap of Honour' will do just the same - it will look particularly lovely on darker skin tones!
The swatches above each have 2 coats.

This collection launched in Superdrug on the 11th Feb and will launch in Boots on the 18th Feb, so you can pick them up now and get into the spring spirit!

February '15 Glossybox - A Little Dissapointment

Thursday, 12 February 2015

Ever since receiving my first two Glossyboxes last month and being absolutely delighted with them, I have been highly anticipating February's edition.

So, when the postman handed me my shiny new box earlier this week I just couldn't wait to peek inside!

I have to say I am not overwhelmed with the packaging of this box. Considering this is a valentines themed box I feel like the 'LOVE' text on the lid isn't all that romantic -  aside from being hot pink, of course. I think a simple pattern or a love heart doodle would have worked better. But it's what's inside that counts, right?
Well, not so great there either unfortunately. I like the pretty 'Glossybox' tissue paper with a matching hot pink ribbon, but the shredded paper inside is just so cheap looking (and feeling.) It reminds me of shredded office paper and is just so boring.

I read the little pamphlet to see what products were included and was happy to see 4 full size products and an adorable mini tube of 'Love Heart' candies.
I couldn't help but feel that these products aren't as exciting as the last I had been sent but none the less, I peeled back the pretty tissue paper to have a look at each one.

The first item I picked out was the most disappointing by far. The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor | RRP £9.99.
Considering that Glossybox prides themselves on being 'The ultimate beauty experience', I cant say that this lived up to that at all.
I really hate to grumble, but - a razor? Really?
Granted it is a little nicer than your everyday BIC razor, but it is still just a razor. I don't know if my disappointment was heightened by the fact I am finding it hard to reach over my massively pregnant belly to shave my legs, but it just seems like a bit of a cop out item?
The good thing about this is that it retails at £9.99, so the cost of the Glossybox is covered by this item alone plus you get 4 other items, too.

On a more positive note, I was happy to receive a full size pot of  the Royal Apothic Tinties in 'coral' | RRP $14.
This L.A brand was inspired by an old apothecary manual (how cool?!) and has become a celebrity favourite.
This little lip balm is beautifully presented in a vintage style glass jar and contains shea butter, argan oil and almond oil amongst other lovely things, meaning your lips feel super hydrated and moisturised.
It smells wonderful and has just the right hint of colour to give your lips a gorgeous flush!
Its a shame that this brand is only sold in the US right now but they do have a website (here) where you can place an order - and they even have a range made just for men!

Another item which I am still unsure of is the MARSK Mineral eyeshadow in 'fifty Shades' | RRP £14.49.
There is nothing overly offensive about this product, I just find it a little 'blah' - for lack of better word.
The packaging doesn't leave me feeling inspired, it has a strange creamy colour that looks as though it has been sitting in the sun too long and personally, I'm not that into grey shadows.
Of course the name is inspired by the release of that movie and if you are a fan of grey eyeshadows, I'm sure you will like this. It is 100% natural - which is always a winner, but at £14.49 a piece, I don't think I'll be repurchasing.

I'm still having trouble deciding if I like this product or not. The So Susan Rose Quartlet lip & Cheek palette | RRP £8.
I think the packaging makes it look pretty cheapy (it almost reminds me of something you'd buy when you are young and just discovering make up), but the product itself has a lovely texture and gives a wonderful result.
There are 4 shades in this mini palette; hot pink, rose, crimson and terracotta - which means it will work well for any look and any skin tone.
I like the size as it means it is a nice travel item - but I do feel that it would benefit hugely from having a mirror in the lid.
The colours are very buildable and the texture is very creamy and soft so they blend well without being oily or shiny on the skin.
I'm going to keep using this product to see if it grows on me, but for now I'm going to say that, as nice as it is I probably wouldn't spend £8 repurchasing it.

The final item in the box was a variable one, as I have seen on other Glossybox reviews that some subscribers received something different from this.
That being said, I am happy with this item and I am looking forward to using it! This is the Got2Be All star 10 in 1 styling treatment | RRP £4.07.
I have used Got2Be items before and have always been very impressed with them. I find it hard to come by products that keep my long, heavy hair in any style that I attempt,  but the Got2Be hairspray really seems to work so I have high hopes for this, too.
I really like the vibrant packaging and, if it lives up to its word, this product will give my hair shine, fullness, strength, thickness, smoothness, suppleness, protection, anti-frizz, anti-humidity and shape all in 2-6 pumps.
As with all Got2Be products it has a wonderful smell and is so simple to use. It is recommended to use this product on damp hair, so I am hoping it will have good hold and a lasting effect.

As I mentioned, Glossybox also included a little tube of love hearts as a special valentines treat.

Overall, I wasn't too impressed with this box. There are 2 items that I know I will get use from but I think there was so much potential and so much to work with being that it was valentines themed. Glossybox seemed to have just stopped the theme at the box design.
It would have been nice to see a red lipstick or lip stain and some false lashes included or even a perfume sample, but nevermind!
I'm sure there are some subscribers who will love this box but it just wasn't a winner for me! Hopefully next months box will excite me as much as my first did!

Did you receive this Glossybox? What did you think?
