Festive Pudding Pops!

Howdy HoneyBees!

Christmas is Drawing closer & closer, so I thought it would be nice to share a recipe idea that you could use on those Christmas get togethers, when friends drop in, or even just to nibble when you're watching you're favourite Christmas film!


These adorable little Pudding pops will go down a treat! They're so yummy and very cute!


You need to start by making a chocolate cake! The recipe I usually follow is;
  • 4oz butter or margarine
  • 4oz caster sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 4oz self raising flour
  • 2oz cocoa powder
  • a few drops of liquid vanilla!

Add all this into a large bowl and mix thoroughly - this will get lots of air in and make it all lovely and fluffy!



 Now grease a cake tin with some butter and pour your cake mixture into the tin.
You need to cook this for 15-20 minutes on Gas mark 5 - check regularly with a probe to make sure your cake is cooked right through!

Once your cake is cooked, remove it from the oven and allow it plenty of time to cool.


While your cake is cooling, you can make some chocolate buttercream. The recipe I used for this was;

2oz Butter
4oz icing sugar
1oz cocoa powder
1tbsp milk

You don't need much of this as we are just going to use it to bind the cake balls together! It should be pretty thick and stiff - you don't want it to be all runny and sticky! 
*If you don't want to make icing you could use Nutella for this stage*


Now that your cake is cool .....
CAKE FIGHHHHTTT!!
haha! Just kidding - but you do need to smash it up! 
Crumble it into small pieces in a large bowl, you could do this with your hands or an electric whisk - either will work fine!


Now add in the buttercream (or Nutella!) to your smashed up cake and blend them together until they start to stick a little, just add a little at a time to make sure they don't get too sticky!
Then pick up small amount and press the mixture together into a ball shape with your hands - they should be quite firm!
Pop these on a parchment lined baking tin and place in the fridge to harden for an hour!
I made 10, but you could make more if you made them smaller!



Mmmmm! Chocolate! I melted 200g Galaxy milk chocolate in the microwave - but a double boiler would work just as well.


The next thing I did was dip some straws (or cake pop sticks) in to the chocolate and the press them firmly into the cake balls.
Let this dry and then lift them up and cover them completely in the chocolate!

Let this dry in the fridge for about 10-20 minutes.

After they were dried I took the sticks out again (I just popped them in as they were easier to handle and less messy when covering with chocolate that way!)


Now you are going to need to melt 100g white chocolate! I am using Milkbar! I also had some edible golden glitter to hand - but you don't have to use this :)


Wait until the chocolate has cooled a little (but not gone hard) and Gently drizzle some of it on the top of each cake in a star shape - it will drip a little but this makes a great effect!
** if you are using edible glitter, sprinkle a little on now!**
Let this dry!


Finally, your going to need some red and green icing - you could make this yourself or use ready tubed icing - like me!
First take the green icing and pipe on some holly leaves! I just did this by drawing 3 small wiggly lines :)
Then take your red icing and pipe on a small circle in the middle of the leaves - this will be a cute little holly berry!


And now they're ready! 
These yummy little bites look and taste beautiful! They will make a lovely addition to your Christmas treat table too! They are also perfect for people who don't like Christmas pudding (like me!) but don't want to miss out on the festivities!
