D.I.Y Home Spa!

Friday, 5 April 2013

If, like me, you are not enjoying the British weather at the moment and the thought of spending your weekend out on the town in below freezing temperatures makes you cringe - you have come to the right place!

I Love spa treatments and the wonderful feeling of peaceful pamperedness you get afterwards, but then comes that other feeling - the one when you realise that you have spent all your money and wont be socialising for the next few months!!
So I am here to show you today, how to make those spa treatments in the comfort of your home, for a relaxing weekend in alone, with a loved one, or even a group of your friends!

Home spa treatments are such fun, not only are they about a tenth of the cost, but you can also customise them to include scents or flavours that you particularly like! And the best thing about most of these recipes is that the ingredients can be found in your cupboards and fridges!!

Lets start from the top!

Mega Moisture Hair Mask!

Recipe adapted from here;

So to make this mega moisture hair mask, which will get everyone swooning over your shiny, silky locks, you will need;
1 avacado
1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
1 teaspooon olive oil

You will need to make sure you have halved the avacado and removed the stone. Then mash all the ingredients together and smother alllll over your hair!
Leave this applied for 10-20 minutes (depending on how much time you have!) and then rinse off and shampoo and condition as usual!
You can use this mask as often as required and it will leave your hair feeling fresh and gorgeous!

Face off!

Banana Honey face Mask;

Coffee and Cocoa Face Pack;

Coffee is perefct for decreasing puffiness, making for a brighter skin and waking up a dull complexion, so use this face mask to get your skin glowing!

You will need;
4 tablespoons finely ground coffee
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
8 tablespoons unflavoured natural yogurt
2 tablespoons honey

Make sure the coffee is finely ground, it will make a nice abrasive and scrub all the dead skin cells off your face to leave it super soft!

Leave applied fior 10-15 minutes (or until dry) and remove with warm water and a soft face cloth

Super Scrubber

Body scrubs have become very popular over the last few years, but they can be extremely expensive to buy, so why not try out making your own - with the same fantastic results!

Hydrating hand scrub;

There is no better time than the lovely British winter to be using a hand scrub! Finish off with some of your favourite moistuiser for a silky soft touch.

To make this hand scrub you will need;

1/4 cup coarse brown sugar
1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1 tablespoon olive oil

Mix it all together and then scrub on your hands for 2 minutes, and rinse off (no soap,please!), finish with your moisturiser and use as often as needed! You could even put some in a small tub to carry around with you on those extra cold days!

skin scrub!

This all over body scrub is amazing and so simple to make, it is perfect for use before fake tanning as you will not end up with all those dry dark spots!

Mix this together well and apply to your skin where required!! You can store in a tub for use later - just make sure its sealed tightly!

Body Treats

No one can resist a good bath fizzer, and for the price it costs to make these, you will be able to have one in every bath you take! They can be customised however you like  with different colours, scents, even glitters and petals!

all you need is;
1/2 cup citric acid
1 cup baking soda
3.4 cup cornstartch
1/4 cup sugar
6 drops food colouring
10-12 drops essential oil(s)
 ** you will also need a spray bottle and an ice cube tray / molds**

Mix the citric acid with the baking soda and cornstarch (if you're using glitter add it here too!)
Sieve the mixture well and stir in the sugar
Fill the spray bottle with water and add the colouring to it
Spritz the mixture until it is damp (not fizzing), you should be able to pack it together with your hands
Add the oil 1 drop at a time until it smells just how you like
Mix the mixture with a spoon or you hands until the colour is even throughout
Pack into the ice cube tray or molds and leave to dry over night
Gently push out of the tray
You will need to use a couple of these in each bath!

At home body glitter;

You can wear this in the summer to give your skin a gorgeous low, or even on a night out to make you feel extra special! Plus it recycles those old, broken old eyeshadows - great all round!

all you need is;
some of your favorite moisturiser
an old crushed gold/pearl eye shadow
a mixing bowl, chopstick, spoon and a jar/bottle

Mix 4 parts lotion to 1/2 part shimmer
stir in with a chopstick
and spoon into your jar or tun!!
You could even mix in some essential oil to give an extra scent!!
You can add more shimmer if you like!

.... Just add some candles, room spritzers and some calming music or old movies and you have the makings of the most relaxing weekend ever!
